"An excellent slice of schlock made even meatier by the pseudo-social message ... it's an outrageous drive-in flick with a conscience." - POP MATTERS.COM
"For centuries they were hunted for bounty, fun and food... now it's their turn!"
From William Girdler, director of such schlock-classics as Grizzly and The Manitou comes the ultimate in ridiculous 70s "nature takes revenge" horror ... this is the DAY OF THE ANIMALS!
When a group of bickering hikers decide to spend the day tramping around the mountains, little do they know they will soon become the targets of every cranky eagle, snake, brown bear and mountain lion in the area, since this is, well, the DAY OF THE ANIMALS! It seems that Mother Nature has had it with all of the 1970s B-list actors (including Christopher George, Lynda Day George, Ruth Roman, Richard Jaeckel and yes ... Leslie Nielsen) running rampant over her terrain, and once she screws around with the Earth's ozone layer, the ensuing radiation causes every animal above an altitude of 5,000 feet to go absolutely bonkers. Before you know it, nasty buzzards are pecking people's eyes out, sneaky snakes are slithering into camper's sleeping bags, and Leslie Nielsen is forced to wrestle a giant grizzly bear!
Mixing genuine shocks and suspense with doses of all-out camp (watch out for those jumping rats!) and an eco-friendly political agenda, this ain't no Disney flick ... this is DAY OF THE ANIMALS!
