"THE PERILS OF GWENDOLINE is absolutely nuts ... kinky and slick, campy and goofy ... yet as crazy as this sex/adventure hybrid sounds, it turns out to be a whole lot of fun." - DVD TALK
Sexy '80s music video vixen (and current celebrity train-wreck) Tawney Kitaen, responsible for the unforgettable car hood ballet in Whitesnake's Here I Go Again video, made her film debut in this supremely cheesy, sexed-up mash-up of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Barbarella that stands as one of the most ridiculous action flicks of the 1980s.
Directed by infamous French filmmaker Just Jaeckin (Emmanuelle), this campy, tongue-in-cheek adventure plays like a softcore parody of Raiders and Romancing the Stone, with flame-haired tigress Kitaen (who later went on to enliven such 80s classics as Bachelor Party and Witchboard) making her dubious big screen debut in the title role of Gwendoline (loosely based on John Willie's pioneering adult comic strip "Sweet Gwendoline"), a sexy, virginal and ultra-dense adventuress on a globetrotting quest to find her missing father, last seen in the remote jungle seeking a rare and beautiful butterfly. As the plot hurdles toward the mysterious land of an all-female slave culture known as the Yik Yak (a land ruled by bald women in bondage gear), Gwendoline recruits hunky mercenary Willard (Brent Huff) and loopy friend Beth (played by French model/actress Zabou) for a series of colorful misadventures, many of which involve ripped clothing, including a climactic chariot chase (powered by Yik Yak women in leather harnesses and bridles) that must be seen to be believed.
